How I Came to Practice Aura-Soma®

In 1992 I was teaching Hatha Yoga and subscribed to Yoga Journal. That year there was an article written by Richard Leviton about a color system from England called Aura-Soma. It described a Color system created by a woman named Vicky Wall comprised of a selection of bottles containing color, plant, and crystal energies. I was fascinated and quickly ordered the book, “The Miracle of Colour Healing, Aura-Soma Therapy as the Mirror of the Soul”. It drew myself into another version of my love of color as an artist.
The book had been written in 1991, and Vicky Wall had just passed away in 92. Fortunately, she had passed on her work to a young couple Mike and Claudia Booth whom she had been working with for the last 7 years of her life. Aura-Soma was not in the states at that time, so I put it on the back burner of my memory for a few years until I found myself at an outdoor festival in Klamath, Oregon where there were many booths set up on a large football field for vendors selling all sorts of natural products. I was there at a week-long workshop for Blue-Green algae, (the newest health craze in Oregon which was harvested from Klamath lake). As I walked around the field checking out each booth, suddenly I turned and looked across the field to the far side. In the sunlight, I could see the most beautiful colors being reflected onto the ground. The closer I walked I began to recognize them as the Aura-Soma bottles. I also felt a lump in my throat and began to get goosebumps as I approached the booth. There in front of me was the real thing I had read about. As I stood there tears began to well in my eyes. There were many people around the young woman at the booth asking questions. As they began to leave she noticed me standing there. Julie had recently returned from doing an apprenticeship for 6 months with Aura-Soma and had come up from California for the festival. She needed a place to put her display during the evenings and I needed to know more about these bottles of color. So she gave me my first Aura-Soma consultation; the whole set stayed in my room at night for the duration of the festival and by the end of it I was totally smitten with this new discovery. Their energies had surrounded me in my dreams and had awakened my Aura.
A year later, in 1995, Mike Booth came to the states and gave a 3-day workshop in Chicago. It was the beginning of the 5-year training I went through to become an advanced Aura-Soma teacher. It was destiny. It had changed my life. I hoped to help others change theirs.
